Dream
Hi Ian, I keep dreaming that I am floating alone on a mattress in the middle of the ocean, well out of sight of land. Although it seems comfortable, I am constantly having to fight off octopus tentacles and green sea serpents that rise from the depths and threaten to drag me into the ocean. What does this mean? Thanks, Erika
Meaning
When you dream of water, you are reflecting on your emotions and previous experiences in waking life and a bed is the place where you are most peaceful and at ease with yourself. Being well out of sight of land suggests that you often remove yourself from the practicalities and realities of being in a committed and loving relationship. This may seem very comfortable on the surface but it can cause a great deal of inner conflict for you.
The tentacles and sea serpents are jealous feelings rising from your emotional depths that threaten to overwhelm you. This suggests that you are unconsciously concerned about entering into a relationship because you fear that powerful feelings of insecurity will rise to the surface and potentially transform you into a jealous monster. From past experience, you know how destructive this can be.
As a result of this, you are trying to keep your distance from potential partners in the hope that you won’t have to confront your jealous feelings. However, the best way to resolve your feelings of insecurity is to be in a loving and open relationship, so perhaps it is time to dip a toe in the water again.
